Honeycomb shades are often referred to as cellular shades. The name honeycomb shade is derived from the the look of the shade in profile. When the shade is held in profile the "cells" of the shade resemble the honeycomb shape of a bee hive. These honeycomb cell shapes trap and hold air and create a barrier between the window surface and the room allowing them to insulate windows and in turn create energy savings.
